Awareness
Chris and many of his colleagues often spoke about opportunities they were given early in their early lives and careers as being pivotal in their path to a career in photography. These opportunities are slowly becoming a thing of the past with newsrooms struggling for funding and fewer paid internships and entry-level positions.
The Fund’s work ensures that his legacy lives on by working to build a new generation of artists and advocates. We believe in the power of photography to bring attention to stories often overlooked, but also to create empathy and action to ignite change.
The Fund works to build the next generation of empathetic visual storytellers by supporting education and awareness programs.
Photoville
& Education Day
Each year brings a special and outstanding group of artists and programming partners to curate and present free outdoor photo exhibitions across all five boroughs of NYC. With stories highlighting hope, joy, and compassion, while honoring experiences of adversity and heartbreak, Photoville aims to elevate the power of visual storytelling by fostering empathy
and understanding within our communities.
A key feature of Photoville is Education Days. This allows students from the area, many from underserved populations, to experience a photography-related school field trip at no charge.
Each year, CHF partners with Photoville to welcome students and educators during Education Days. CHF has photojournalists on hand to share skills and advice with the students. This is an excellent way to access a broad spectrum of young people new to photography. It ignites in them a passion for photography and for telling the stories of their communities and communities around the world.

HONDROS FELLOW
AT THE EDDIE ADAMS
PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
The Fund awards an annual fellowship to one of the attendees of the Eddie Adams Photography Workshop based on the photos the photographer creates during the workshop and a review of the photographer’s portfolio. Recipients should demonstrate a commitment to documenting a visual history of newsworthy events in the spirit of Chris Hondros, his imagery, and his continuous drive to tell a story.
